Diving and Watersports

Swanage pier is a popular dive site for new and qualified divers, being one of the few sheltered sea diving sites on the south coast.

Thousands come to Swanage Pier to Scuba Dive under the wooden Pier framework or to board boats to other local dive destinations, including many wrecks lying in deeper water outside the bay. An area adjacent to the Pier has been buoyed off as a safe Diver Training Zone and with a depth of 5 meters Swanage Pier is a popular diving site for new and qualified divers.

Diving Fees

Adult Heritage Diving Charge £5.00

Child Heritage Diving Charge £3.50 (under 14s)

Fees are charged per diver and all money will help to contribute to the enormous amount of restoration work and secure the long-term future of Swanage Pier.

Divers Down

Established in 1958, Divers Down is the oldest Diving School in the UK) providing Boat Charter, Air, Nitrox, Hire Equipment and Shop Sales. The shop is open 7 days a week during the diving season - March to October, to supply you with all you need to carry out your dive. At weekends the air filling station opens at 08.00 and closes between 17.00 and 20.00 depending on demand. We recommend you check Divers Down opening times before planning your visit.

Mike Potts Diving

With the sea quite literally 5 metres from the door, where better to either learn to dive or continue your diving education. Mike Potts regularly runs diving courses at every level, from 'try dives' under the pier to technical diving courses further offshore.

Swanage Boat Charter

Swanage Boat Charter offers diving for the novice or more experienced divers, visiting wrecks, reef, scenic and dift dive sites. 

Isle of Purbeck Sub-Aqua Club

Swanage Pier is also the home of IPSAC  an active club of 50 plus members.
